I love small, not too well-known, secret pearls, and one of them is the Bijela river canyon. Although you have to drive for about an hour, from the parking lot to the source is only ten to fifteen minutes of easy walking, and there is really no excuse not to go treasure hunting if you are already on the other side of Velebit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bijela river probably got its name because of the many waterfalls and rapids that adorn its 3-kilometer long course with whiteness. The canyon could be called red by a similar logic. Together, they are truly a beautiful sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The river dries up in the summer months, so you can't cool off in it, but because of the interesting canyon, it's not a bad time to visit either. At that time you can also eat some, not too tasty, figs that grow in several places in the canyon. In the summer, I would recommend visiting in the late afternoon, so that the sun doesn't finish you off in the canyon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the walk, you will pass very close to the edge of the canyon in a couple of places, so if you are with children or dogs, make sure they don't wander too close to the edge. I got to the spring via the \"upper\" route, and returned via the \"lower\" route through the canyon.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
