Although it can be seen quite nicely from the road and the surrounding meadows, views mostly bypass the \u0160tuli\u0107 tower (\u0160tuli\u0107a kula), because few people drive through Gornja plo\u010da. Of course, you know I'm talking about a settlement, not a freeway exit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tower was most likely built in the 16th or 17th century by the Turks to protect themselves from invasions from Senj. They had no idea that it would become a protected cultural asset and the best preserved Turkish tower in Lika . When I meet some Turks, I will tell them what eventually happened to the tower. They will surely be glad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The surroundings of the \u0160tuli\u0107 tower are interspersed with a multitude of paths and what resemble paths, but in the end none of them turn out to be a good choice. I assume that, since there is no marked path, people are walking around like flies trying to find the right path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I came along the forest road from Malinovac (a group of houses before the \u0160tuli\u0107 tower from the direction of Gornja plo\u010da) and descended over interesting boulders to the tower itself.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
