I only really got to know Lapydes while researching Lika. Since then, I enjoy visiting the places where they lived. It's one thing to read about history, and another to stand where it really happened.
This is the place where the oldest evidence of human presence in the Gacka area was found. The cave has been used by people since the Mesolithic, somewhere at the transition from the older to the younger Stone Age. If you prefer numbers, that time is around 10,000 BC.
Of course, the Lapydes entered the historical stage much later (around 900 BC) and their remains in Pećina, which are mainly related to ceramics, date from the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age.
Lapydes got on the Romans' nerves terribly, for good reason. They kept running into free shopping all the way to Italy. The Romans killed them only 66 years before they killed Jesus. The question for 1,000 euros is: "In what year did the Romans defeat Lapydes?"
Park next to the Croatian Center for Indigenous Species of Karst Fish and Crayfish. A short path leads from there.
