The people of Karlovac are proud of their four rivers. What amateurs! Lovinac has: Banica, Jadova, Jadičevac, Krušnica, Suvaja, Opsenica, Ričica and Ričina. The source of Banica used to be an uninteresting puddle, but now it has been renovated as a wonderful place for a picnic.

There is a barbecue area and a few tables set up at the spring and if you are celebrating your birthday in a month with good weather, this is the perfect place. There are also a few trees that will provide some much-needed shade. How popular this place is is shown by the fact that some call Jarun lake "Banica of Zagreb".

The water is, of course, cold, but not so cold that you can't lie back in the spring for a few minutes in the summer. That is why it is the right time to mention that the name Banica probably comes from "bana, balenum", which would be a place for bathing in Latin.
