The Gacka River made an effort to show all its splendor in its ten kilometers of above-ground flow, once the third-longest abyssal river in the world. Its springs were not declared a natural monument by chance. Majerovo vrilo (Majer's source) is the most famous.

The Gacka River rises in the Tonkovića vrilo (Tonković's source), and on its short and peaceful journey it is joined by the waters of the Majerovo vrilo, vrilo Klanac and several smaller tributaries and springs. In the past, there were about sixty mills and sawmills on its shores, of which only a couple are in operation today, namely on Majerovo vrilo. The mills are open to visitors, and if you are into baking bread, you can also buy water-milled flour.

The crystal clear water of Gacka is home to a dozen fish species, including California and brown trout. It would be a shame not to spice up your trip with some of them on a plate together with famous local patatoes.
