Although monuments to the National Liberation Struggle (NOB) in the Second World War have similar aesthetics, often are very original and sometimes masterpieces of monumental plastic. This monument is one of them but what won me over were the wonderful verses that adorn it.
In the arduous and long march of the Sixth Brigade, Nineteenth North Dalmatian Shock Division from the second to the seventh of January 1944 from Bosnia across Lika to Northern Dalmatia in a superhuman battle with a snowstorm here on the great Popinsko Polje on January 5 and 6, 1944, 26 fighters laid their lives in the foundation of freedom.
The monument was erected by the people of Dalmatia and Lika in 1984 to witness the birth of freedom for generations. We warmed you in our hearts, you remained in our hearts.
Chained in ice
surrounded by dark
reached with their hearts
where they could not walk
If anyone knows who the author of the monument is, please let me know.
