Cerovac Caves

Cerovačke špilje

Time: 30 min
Kids: Yes
Dogs: They are not allowed in the caves

When the renovation project of the Cerovački caves for visitors was started, it was said that it would be the second most attractive destination in Lika after the Plitvice Lakes. Considering the competition, it was a safe bet.

South Velebit in the area of Crnopac is the wildest part of this mountain. There are many karst structures, the most famous of which is probably the cave system of Kita Gaćešin - Draženova puhaljka, the longest cave system of the Dinaric karst. While these beauties are reserved only for a select few, today everyone can enjoy Cerovac Caves.

The Center of Excellence Cerovac Caves was opened in 2022 and two caves with creative names, Gornja (Upper) and Donja (Lower) cave, are open for visitors. I would call them Spacious and Kitschy. The tour of each cave takes about 50 minutes, but when you add the walk from the center to the caves and between them, everything takes an hour and a half per cave. Since all tours are guided, they start every hour and a half, so check the time before arriving.

The caves have a constant temperature of 7 degrees, which is ideal for warming up a little on cold winter days. I don't understand why there isn't a single tree in the parking lot.
