It would really be a shame to spend a day in Lika without visiting the Memorial Center "Nikola Tesla" in Smiljan. You can easily spend (or rather earn) an hour or two, and it will be interesting for the kids as well.

The first thing I read in the museum was this: “The frog hook is one of my first practical inventions. I would swing my invention on the stream and with an infallible method, the frogs were defeated." Since I'm from the Neretva Valley and I spent probably more time hunting and eating frogs than Nikola, I think I'm better than him in that field.

As a kid, Nikola jumped from the stable with an umbrella and broke his arm and leg. In the audio guide, they say that this is why he was a visionary. I jumped off a balcony with an umbrella without breaking an arm and a leg and my father said I was an idiot, not a visionary.

And therein lies the main difference between Nikola and me. If I had such support from my family as he did, there would probably be a factory of electric cars or at least bicycles in Croatia now. Since I'm from Neretva, it would probably be called Mandarina, Lemon, Greyp or something like that.

Winter working hours are short, so inform yourself before arriving.
