Mars approaches Earth every two years and that is the best time to visit this planetary neighbor. Time to visit planetu Kruščici is every year, in the summer, when the lake almost dries up.
Then stone structures and lifeless tree trunks emerge from the water into the sun, defying the water that has drowned them for decades. The lake is not natural, but was created in 1971 for the needs of the Senj hydroelectric plant and later the Sklope hydroelectric plant. It got its name from the settlement of Kruščica, which is now located at its bottom, and the remains of the settlement can be seen at a very low water level.
The lake is periodically completely emptied to inspect the bottom and hydrotechnical facilities. I haven't seen it in person, but I'd like to, because even in the dry season when it's not fully emptied it looks craaaaazy!
The easiest way to get there is if you go from Gospić, and in Smiljan you turn right towards Perušić. In Klanac, follow the main road towards Krasno. After a few kilometers you will see a sign for Jezero Kruščica and Vaganac, so there should be no problems with navigation. On two occasions, after the lake, I continued to Kosinje, but the macadam is not the best in a couple of places, and I also had problems with the company car.
