Dr. Ante Starčević Memorial Home
The memorial home is managed by the State Archives in Gospić and in this case, that is perfectly enough to correctly conclude what awaits you there. I've convinced myself many times that knowledge doesn't have to be boring at all, but here it is, so high school boring.
In which house this famous Croatian politician (Father of the motherland) was born and spent the first years of his life, it is not known for sure, but it was certainly not in this one, because it was built only in 1998. Upstairs there is a multimedia hall where you can watch a documentary about, guess who? The ground floor was once decorated like a traditional Lika house, but now only archival material about the man the film is about is presented there.
As Ante Starčević is not Freddie Mercury or Howard Huges, I didn't feel like reading a bunch of the same panels at first glance, so I asked the gentleman from the State Archives to show me some interesting part and he separated the bill with the costs of Starčević's funeral. So, there's still a chance you'll find something interesting, but if you don't love Anta like I love eels and frogs, maybe there's no need to come.
As the memorial home does not have working hours, it is necessary to announce your arrival at the State Archives in Gospić.
