The "Little Prince" trail
The area around Crnopac is one of the wildest parts of Velebit, and if you have decided to stay in Zir Zen, then the wilderness is what attracts you. Here is the longest cave system in the Dinarides, but it is for the lucky ones who walk underground. For everyone else, there's the "Little Prince" trail.
The trail is a wonderful round trip, as fairytale-like as the boy whose name it bears. In just over 2.5 kilometers, you will pass many rock formations, of which Zdenkova jama (Zdenko's pit) is the most interesting. The path is quite demanding, but in all critical places it is properly secured, so that with a bit of attention, it does not pose a problem even for less experienced mountaineers.
How much time you will need depends on how much time you will spend exploring, enjoying and taking photos. This is not a path for walking. This is a path to enjoy. Please note that the area is not covered by mobile signal.
As the starting point for the Little Prince trail, the parking lot on Prezid is most often used, from which a marked trail leads to the Crnopac mountain shelter. It takes about an hour and a half to reach the shelter itself. The branch for the Little Prince trail (marking Bili Kuk) is located a few tens of meters north of the mountain shelter. If the macadam is not in bad condition, it is possible to reach the parking lot on the Prvi plato (First plateau) by car, from which a marked path leads to the shelter. This path is shorter and easier.
Here is the map where the track is marked in red. (Source: HPS).
